In this day and age boob feeding is full of choices that stretch from formula vs. breast feeding, pumping and dumping, and of course the different techniques to stop the effects of breast feeding. If parenting is about sacrifice, boob feeding over formula is where the pain really starts.
First, the obvious pain is the physical treatment the mother receives. The first few days are a good indicator of what is to come… pain. The monotony of the boob feeding hand cuffs. If you are not feeding your baby then you are strapped to a machine, being milked like the happy cows of California.
Secondly, there are the sharper pains. The pains that the mother feels as the baby’s teeth starts to come in and the chompers don’t know what they are biting. The pain of working long days and filling up as your baby sits in day care.
Finally, there is an emotional pain. As the mom and baby grow closer through boob feeding, the father stands at a distance, only remembering what was his and what he is no longer allowed to touch.
Sacrifice.
